What to Look for in a Good Affiliate Program That Can Help You Earn More

Working with Affiliate Programs is one way to work from home and earn a substantial income. A person can easily build a comfortable residual income using affiliate programs. You are an owner of a business without the daily headaches of a business that typically exist in other conventional business ownership. Those who are affiliates do not typically handle customer service issues or stock inventory of any kind, yet they sell products and services and are compensated for being successful.
Affiliate programs have created many millionaires so becoming an affiliate can be very profitable without the long hours and physical labor that so many other jobs or careers entail. That does not mean that an affiliate does not have to work, they do. Affiliates have to be good at prospecting for customers, motivating themselves, staying abreast of industry changes and always update and add to the products and services that they are promoting. How do affiliates know that they are promoting the right affiliate programs? What do they look for in a good program?
Here are some things to look for an affiliate program
  1. The affiliate program should have products or a service that you have some interest in. Are the products or service something that you would be interested in buying yourself? If the product or service has value that you can see, others will too.
  2. Look for a product of high quality. One way to find quality products is to look for the products that experts in the field of Affiliate Marketing are promoting. They are experienced at choosing quality products that sell.
  3. Look for testimonial from people who have purchased the products, read them to ascertain if the people are happy with the quality of the products and if they recommend them to others.
  4. Is the product one that is in a growing target market? You will want to know that there will be a large enough demand for the products that you are promoting so that you can make good money from your efforts. One way to find out if the product has a target market is to check out forums and discussion boards where people are discussing the product (do a search on google to find these by product name).
  5. Check to see if the product is consumable (needs to be replaced or replenished) and if you will be receiving residual income (paid over and over for multiple purchases)
  6. Is the compensation at least 30% of the product price? You do not want to waste your time on not being compensated enough for your time and efforts.
  7. Read Merchant guidelines for sales quotas that may be difficult to achieve. Look for any pre-requisites that must be reached before being compensated. Understand any minimum sales or compensation amounts (checks won't be paid until you reach $100 in commission etc) These requirements are fine as long as you agree to them.
  8. Check out what the merchant is offering as far as tools (pre-written ads, banners etc.) The merchant should also provide information about the products and guides to promoting them. A good affiliate program will also give the affiliate learning tools to help affiliates learn how to promote successfully.
  9. You will also want to be sure that the Affiliate Program has a system set up where you can check your stats (sales, clicks, compensation etc).
  10. Look for an Affiliate Program that provides a help link or forum for it's affiliates and has a history of upgrading or improving their products (products have versions or the site says "new, improved" in regards to the products)
  11. There are many affiliate forums where those working the programs talk about their experiences promoting the product and how they are being treated by the merchant.
Once you have done the above tasks you will be ready to join one or more affiliate programs. It is important for your success to stay on top of the affiliate marketing field. Take some books out of the library that give information about successful affiliate marketing. Another good source of information is right at your fingertips. The article you are reading right now is a prime example. Do research online for articles and websites set up to help affiliate be successful. There are lots of good affiliate programs out there, you just need to know what to look for. Good luck affiliates!
